I always look forward to hearing yet another interpretation of this great work. I (and I'm sure many other people) are greatly influenced by the first recording one hears of any particular work - often becoming sort of a standard upon which other recordings are measured. In my case, for this work, the standard is Munch's recording with the BSO. Then, sometimes, one hears a recording that brings out things not noticed on other recordings. For the Schumann set, this is the case with Gardiner (http://www.amazon.com/Schumann-Complete-Symphonies-Robert/dp/B000006PKI/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1257959831&sr=1-16)and hopefully, with Muti. Many thanks.
